UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS
What this may feel like.
Neck discomfort can make it difficult to turn your head while driving, work at a computer, or sleep comfortably. Some people feel symptoms mostly around the neck and shoulders; others notice associated arm symptoms or headaches.
- Stiffness when looking over the shoulder
- Discomfort with desk work or extended positions
- Neck symptoms accompanied by shoulder or arm discomfort
Pain and movement changes can have more than one explanation. A specific diagnosis requires an individual clinical assessment.
THE EVALUATION
How a physical therapist approaches it.
An evaluation may include questions about the onset of symptoms, any headaches or arm sensations, posture and work demands, and the movements that reproduce or reduce discomfort. The goal is to understand the individual, not to assume every neck problem is posture-related.
You can learn more about Kinesio's approach on the Physical Therapy services page, including information about available treatment techniques.
INDIVIDUALIZED CARE
Moving toward your goals.
Based on findings, a plan might include movement strategies, mobility work, strength development, or clinician-guided hands-on techniques. Approaches should match the person’s goals and safety needs.
At Kinesio, treatment decisions are based on clinical evaluation rather than a symptom checklist. Explore the listed treatment modalities to see what may be discussed during a visit.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions worth asking.
Is neck pain always from poor posture?
No. Position and activity can influence symptoms, but many factors may contribute. An evaluation looks at the broader picture.
What if I also feel tingling in my arm?
Tell your clinician. Radiating pain, tingling, and weakness can change the assessment and whether further testing or medical evaluation is appropriate.
